Winter in Chicago brings snow and cold along with all sorts of viral infections like flu, cold virus, RSV and in the last few years, COVID-19. Viral conjunctivitis is highly contagious and common worldwide. It is transmitted through direct contact with infected objects and bodily fluids such as tears and saliva. Symptoms are present in one eye initially and then transfer to the other eye. Symptoms include.

  • Itching
  • Burning
  • Watery discharge
  • Redness

Treatment options can include cool compresses, artificial tears and prescription medication. We highly encourage good hygiene practices such as:

  • Washing your hands frequently and for 20 seconds.
  • Do not share linens and utensils
  • Avoid touching your eyes.
  • Discard all eye cosmetics.
